Found one myself yesterday 29 May 2008, the first one I've ever found there. It was very pink. Have found marsh orchids in past but they disappeared very quickly, probably eaten by stock. There are less cattle on nowadays which might make a difference. I also disturbed a slow worm on the same walk. It soon slithered into cover.
I find your blog interesting and have recommended it to other members of Hull Naturalists.
regards
Johnjohnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10457101092560517250noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1879492217396185472.post-80442859767541807182007-07-12T15:50:00.000-07:002007-07-12T15:50:00.000-07:00The whistles you describe sound like the contact c...The whistles you describe sound like the contact call of the Robin. Treecreepers do make a very high pitched whistling though and I have seen them in hawthorn scrub at Figham.Nick Uptonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04109376360243282930noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1879492217396185472.post-53473998267144719612007-06-22T05:36:00.000-07:002007-06-22T05:36:00.000-07:00This is a nicely written account of your observati...This is a nicely written account of your observations on Figham Common. Other nature writing I have similarly enjoyed has been 'Nature Cure' by Mabey and 'The Snow Geese' by Paul Gallico. I now have a query. I heard a sibilant repetitive whistle coming from a lone hawthorn on farmland (rough grazing, with dense hazel scrub encroaching everywhere) this morning. All I could see in the tree was 2 robins and I was wondering if the whistle came from a treecreeper.pbhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15667393169334055406noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1879492217396185472.post-35871068172102388862007-01-21T10:27:00.000-08:002007-01-21T10:27:00.000-08:00Don't forget the fab new scrape on the oposite sid...Don't forget the fab new scrape on the oposite side supplied by the fab RSPB who are working together with farmers in the area!

Those chaps (surely there isn't just one of them!!) are bloody fantastic!!Simon Tonkinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17575889238535642590noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1879492217396185472.post-27367897710315342142007-01-21T10:24:00.000-08:002007-01-21T10:24:00.000-08:00Where have you been, there are Chaffinch's calling...Where have you been, there are Chaffinch's calling all over Beverley and Bishop Burton and you only managed to just see one and only thanks to Rose and I!!!!

Get it sorted Upton you are a disgrace!!Simon Tonkinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17575889238535642590noreply@blogger.com
